Founding Engineer

An early-stage AI startup is looking for its first Founding Engineer to join the founding team and help build the future of developer tooling.

This is a rare opportunity to join at the earliest stage, work directly with the founders, shape technical decisions, and play a key role in building both the product and the engineering culture.

We're looking for a highly technical builder who thrives in startup environments, enjoys solving complex engineering challenges, and wants to have a meaningful impact on the future of software development.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, build, and scale core platform capabilities.

  • Develop scalable backend systems and services.

  • Architect and implement integrations with developer tools, CI/CD pipelines, IDEs, and AI-powered workflows.

  • Collaborate closely with founders on product strategy, technical direction, and execution.

  • Design secure, scalable, and observable systems.

  • Take ownership of technical decisions, architecture, and implementation.

  • Contribute to creating engineering standards, best practices, and future team culture.

  • Work hands-on across multiple technologies and domains in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of software engineering experience.

  • At least 3 years of experience working in startup environments.

  • At least 1 year experience using AI-powered development tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar AI coding agents.

  • B.Sc. in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field - required.

  • M.Sc. or Ph.D. - an advantage.

  • Proven experience building products in fast-moving environments.

  • Strong hands-on development skills and willingness to remain deeply involved in implementation.

  • Extensive experience with TypeScript and Go.

  • Experience building backend services and distributed systems.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture, scalability, and system design.

  • Experience working with PostgreSQL and modern data infrastructure.

  • Familiarity with Python for backend or analysis services.

  • Strong product mindset and ability to balance technical excellence with business impact.

  • Experience with static code analysis, ASTs, Tree-sitter, LSPs, code intelligence platforms, or graph databases. - Advantage

  • Experience building developer tools, platform products, or engineering productivity solutions. - Advantage

  • Experience designing systems that operate across large-scale codebases. - Advantage
